Arsenal defeat Chelsea to spice up the top four battle

The much anticipated north London derby lived upto the hype and turned out to be a six goal thriller. Arsenal won the high octane clash and went level on points with Tottenham at fourth. Mikel Arteta’s side started the slower of the two teams but found themselves ahead after Eddie Niketah took full advantage of Andreas Christensen’s blunder to slot past Edouard Mendy. Chelsea fought back strongly and equalised courtesy Timo Werner four minutes later. Arsenal regained the lead through a Emile Smith Rowe low shot from 18 yards out

In a topsy turvy first-half, Thomas Tuchel's side once again got onto level terms as Cesar Azpilicueta poked home Mason Mount's cross. Nketiah then netted his second of the night in the 57th minute to put Arsenal 3-2 ahead, with the result sealed when Bukayo Saka sent Mendy the wrong way from the penalty spot after being brought down by Azpilicueta.

Arsenal manager was delighted with the result and it was apparent with the way he expressed himself during the post match interview with Sky Sports . “What I love is the spirit of these players. When you lose matches you get punished and criticised but with these players I don’t care because they’re growing. For us to win a London derby away the way we did it I’m really happy as well”

“I said to them if you want to play Champions League football you have to come to places like this and win.”

On Eddie Nketiah's performance, Arteta added: "What I’ve been saying all the time about Eddie. When you look at him in training and how humble he is all the time, good things happen. Good things happen to good people. The same with Mo Elneny and Rob Holding."
