NZ ends day 1 of 2nd test on 155-2
Bad Light stops play as NZ ends day 1 of 2nd test on 155/2
By the end of the first day's play of the second Test between New Zealand and Sri Lanka being played in Wellington, the Hosts NZ scored 155 runs losing 2 wickets. Due to bad weather on the first day only 48 overs could be bowled. Out of which opener Devon Conway played 18 overs and scored 78 runs with the help of 13 fours.
Courtesy of Conway's half-century, NZ scored 155 runs for two wickets in the first innings on the rain-affected first day of the second Test cricket match against Sri Lanka. Left-handed batter Tom Latham and Conway shared an 87-run partnership for the first wicket. 30-year-old Latham became the first victim of Kasun Rajitha after scoring 21 runs.
The Visitors SL won the toss and put hosts NZ to bat first. Conway played flamboyant innings of 78 runs and shared an 87-run partnership for the first wicket with Tom Latham. Both gave a good start to the team. The last match's hero and the former skipper of the side Kane Williamson was playing on the 26 and Henry Nicholls on the 18 when the day's play was called off early due to bad light.
After this, Lankan skipper Dimuth Karunaratne did not take any time to decide to bowl first after winning the toss but the pitch did not help his fast bowlers in the way he was expecting.
Conway and Latham started cautiously early in the innings. After scoring 21 runs off 73 balls, Latham was caught out at the boundary line by playing a lofted shot off Kasun Rajitha. Conway completed his eighth test half-century off 69 balls. He was looking in good touch to play a solid and big knock but he was caught back by spinner Dhananjay D'Silva. He hit 13 fours in his innings. The first test match of the series was won by NZ in a nail-biting thriller by 2-wickets courtesy of Williamson and Mitchell.
