Rashid Khan joins Shane Watson and Yuvraj Singh's elite list in the IND T20 League

The IND T20-league-based franchises Kolkata and Gujarat on Sunday produced what will go down as one of the greatest matches in the history of this amazing league. In a game that swung from one side to another several times, 2-times league winners Kolkata emerged triumphant at defending league winners Rashid Khan-led Gujarat’s backyard, chasing down a stiff 205-run target in the afternoon game of the 09th April's double-header that went down to the very last delivery.

Fans witnessed five match-winning sixes and a magnificent hat trick in the same. In the absence of the regular skipper Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan took charge of the Gujarat side and became the third captain to claim a hat-trick in IND T20 League. It was the first hat trick of the 16th edition of the IND T20 League. Earlier only Yuvraj Singh and Shane Watson were the only skippers to achieve this milestone. Overall, 19 bowlers have taken hat-tricks in the history of this league.

Afghan spinner Rashid Khan grabbed a hat-trick while bowling tremendously in the match against Kolkata in the 17th over of the match when Kolkata needed 50 off 24 balls. Leg-spinner Rashid completed this hat-trick while claiming the wickets of Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Shardul Thakur. However, the 24-year-old flamboyant bowler’s hat trick went into vain as Left-handed batter Rinku Singh created history by smoking 48 off 21 balls, including his five sixes in an over to cross the line for Kolkata against Yash Dayal.

This was the 22nd hat trick in the history of the Indian T20 League. 40-year-old leg-spinner Amit Mishra is the only bowler to claim three hat-tricks in IND T20 League. He took hat-tricks for Delhi (2008), Hyderabad (2011) & (2013). 

Former Team India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh took a hat trick twice in a single season while playing for Punjab in 2009, he took a hat trick against Bangalore, and another one against Hyderabad in the same year. India’s skipper Rohit Sharma also scalped a hat-trick in the IND T20 League. In 2009, while playing for Hyderabad, he took a hat trick against his current team Mumbai. In that season, Rohit Sharma claimed 11 wickets under his belt. 36-year-old Rohit bowls off-spin, he has taken a total of 15 wickets in the IND T20 League so far.
