Ravi Bishnoi climbs to the peak of T20I bowling rankings
Ravi Bishnoi is the new No.1 T20I bowler in the World Rankings. This comes after he won the Player of the Series award against Australia. He had pocketed nine wickets in five matches in that series at an average of 18.22. This achievement capped a momentous rise in T20I cricket for the 23-year-old leg spinner since his debut in February 2022. He has 34 T20I wickets at 17.38 with an economy of just over 7 and a strike rate of 14.5.
Bishnoi dethroned the Afghanistan spin wizard Rashid Khan at the top of the table and displaced Wanindu Hasaranga, Adil Rashid and Maheesh Theekshana down a place to complete the top five with a list of spinners.
In the five-match T20I series against Australia, the Indian side allowed a good amount of bowling to Bishnoi in the powerplays and it paid off entirely, both while keeping runs under check and in fetching wickets at regular intervals. The Indian cricket team will hope that Bishnoi keeps up with his dynamic form as they prepare for the T20 World Cup which will be played in the Caribbean and the USA, where spinners will play a pivotal role. India have six T20I events scheduled till the marquee event begins, so there is not much room for experimentation and the Indian Cricket management must understand that. Although the Men in Blue will surely get a confidence boost from the 4-1 result against Australia.
