Ashwin dethrones James Anderson to become the No.1 Bowler in Test Cricket

Ashwin has supplanted James Anderson as the world's best bowler in Test cricket. According to the most recent International Cricket Rankings announcement, one great Indian off-spinner has surpassed the seasoned English speedster by 864 rating points.

With Anderson falling second after England's shocking defeat to New Zealand in the Wellington Test, Ashwin took the top position after a six-wicket match haul in India's convincing victory against Australia in the second Test.

In 2015, Ashwin became the top-ranked Test bowler for the first time. Since then, he has held that position numerous more times. In the first innings of India's victory in Dehli, he removed Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith in the same over before going back to claim Alex Carey for a duck.

In the second innings, the dependable off-spinner dominated, taking up three of the top five. At the same time, his bowling partner for a spin, Ravindra Jadeja, destroyed the remainder of the Aussies from the other end.

In India's last two Tests against Australia at home in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, Ashwin has a chance to prolong his current tenure at No.1.

The last time, Anderson displaced Australia skipper Pat Cummins as the top Test bowler, making Ashwin the third No. 1 Test bowler in as many weeks. However, according to the most recent rankings, the trio remains among the top three bowlers.

After his outstanding performance in the first Test against New Zealand at Mount Maunganui, England's 40-year-old pacer Anderson rose to the top of the bowling rankings, however, he has since fallen seven rating points to 859 and into second position.

The veteran, who took three top-order wickets in the first innings of the fantastic second Test, once again had an effect, although he is now five rating points behind Ashwin, who is still leading with 864 points.
