Rehan Ahmad becomes the youngest bowler to pick a fifer on Test Debut.
Meet Rehan Ahmed, the Youngest bowler to take a 5-wicket haul on Test Debut
England's right-arm leg spinner Rehan Ahmed has become the youngest bowler in the history of men’s test cricket to take 5 wicket haul in the debut match. He tore apart Pakistan in the ongoing third and final test match in Karachi with his magical bowling.
The 18-year-old bowler Rehan Ahmed created havoc against the Hosts with his leg spin. Seeing the bowling of the youngster on the third day of the third Test against Pakistan, the hosts' side batters also folded their hands and gave up against this new spin lad. In his debut match, the English bowler took 5 wickets in his very first match of the second innings of the test match. With this, he has also registered his name in the history of 145 years old Test cricket.
With this, Rehan has also broken the record of Australian fast bowler and current skipper of the test side Pat Cummins. Before him, this record was in the name of Cummins, who took 5 wickets while making his debut at the age of 18 years 196 days. On the other hand, Rehan achieved this milestone at the age of 18 years and 128 days. He took a total of 7 wickets for 137 runs in both innings of the Third Test, which is the best debut for an English leg-spinner since 1933. In 1933, CS Marriott took 11 wickets for 96 runs including both innings of a match against the West Indies.
Rehan also bagged 2 wickets in the form of Shakeel and Faheem Ashraf for 89 runs in the first innings. In the second innings, he produced some magic with his leg spin by dismissing captain Babar Azam, Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan, Agha Salman and Mohammad Wasim by giving 48 runs and claiming his first-ever test fifer. In return Pakistan's team, after falling behind by 50 runs in the first innings, was able to score only 216 runs in the second innings and gave the target of 167 runs to the visiting team.
It was a proud moment for Rehan's father, who was present on the stand and watching his son's incredible performance against Pakistan. Rehan originated from Pakistan. His father Naseem Ahmed was a former Pakistani fast-bowling all-rounder. However, he later shifted to England.
