Rishabh Pant Likely to be out for two years says, Delhi’s supremo Sourav Ganguly
Rishabh Pant’s forced exit from the Indian T20 League 2023 due to his car accident injury, now it is expected that his recovery will take longer than expected, hence delaying his chances to come back to the international cricket arena. This news came in accordance with the statement made by the former Indian captain and the Delhi franchise’s Director of Cricket, Sourav Ganguly. Pant succumbed to serious injuries following a terrific car crash on December 30, last year. Till now he has undergone knee surgery and is currently under rehabilitation. Ganguly who is presently in charge of Delhi’s pre-season training in Kolkata said that he is in continuous touch with the Pant.
“I spoke to him a couple of times. Obviously, he is going through a tough period, through injuries and surgeries and I wish him well. In a year’s time or maybe in a couple of years’ time, he will be back playing for India,” Ganguly said to news sources.
With Pant not on the list for the Delhi side, they are expected to announce their next captain for the upcoming edition of the tournament. It is expected that David Warner will be selected as the skipper for this season. The expectations for Warner will be high as he led the Hyderabad franchise to their sole Indian T20 League title in the year 2016.
“We still need a bit of time to figure it out. The next camp starts before the Indian T20 League,” he said. Ganguly scrutinised a three-day camp in Kolkata which included players like Prithvi Shaw, Chetan Sakariya, Ishant Sharma and Manish Pandey who attended along with other domestic cricketers.
“The Indian T20 League is still a month away and the season has just started. It is difficult to get all the players together for the amount of cricket they play. There are four or five who are playing Irani Trophy. Sarfaraz has an injured finger and it’s not a broken finger. He should be okay for the Indian T20 League,” he stated.
