Rishabh Pant likely to miss Indian T20 League 2023 and the Test series vs AUS after the car accident

Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is undergoing treatment at Dehradun’s Max Hospital after he met an accident while his car crashed into the divider railing on the Delhi-Dehradun highway in the early hours of Friday, 30 December. The Indian Cricket Board released a medical bulletin in coordination with the Max Hospital doctors just after the incident which states that “Pant has suffered two cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee along with injuries on his right wrist, ankle, toe and back.”

A medical team member attending the cricketer said that “His condition is being monitored by Dr Gaurav Gupta of the orthopaedics department. Pant is stable, and not suffering from any life-threatening injury. His mother is with him in the hospital.”

Dr Qamar Azam who is in charge of the sports injury department at AIIMS Rishikesh, while speaking on the severity of the cricketer’s injuries said, “Pant will take at least three to six months to recover from the ligament injury. And if it’s severe, he may take more time. Further evaluation can be based on his detailed injury report.”

This definitely puts on a question on Pant’s availability for the home test series against Australia which starts on February 9. He has been a vital cog in the Indian Cricket Team’s successful campaign in the previous two years.

Pant is also likely to miss the Indian T20 League where he is the captain of the Delhi franchise. He was part of the Indian side that won the latest Test series against Bangladesh 2-0 earlier this month.
