Rohit Sharma becomes the first Indian captain to have centuries in all formats, scored his 9th Test ton

Continuing his dominating form of ODIs to Tests, Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma Scored his 9th Test century in the first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. It was September 2021 when Rohit reached a triple-digit score against England on the Oval. In 2022, he didn't score a single century in any format. But today, the wait of one and a half years has ended, and he scored 120 Runs in 212 balls, including 15 Fours and 2 Sixes. 

Rohit Sharma became the first Indian Captain who score a Century in all three formats. Rohit has 9 Tons in Test, 30 Tons in ODIs, and 4 Tons in T20Is.

Babar Azam, Faf du Plessis, and Tilakratne Dilshan are already on the list of international legends who have hit a century as skipper in each of the game's three forms. The first Indian to join them was Rohit.

With a strike rate of over 80 and a score of 56 off 69 balls after Day 1, Rohit has been hitting runs at a decent clip in the first Test. However, even though he completed his ninth hundred in the most extended version of the game in only 171 balls on the second day, his strike rate dropped since wickets fell at the opposite end of the pitch.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri was thrilled by the way he batted on Day 1. "Rohit Sharma won't let any bowler get comfortable while he is batting. Not simply because of the runs he will get but also because of the rate at which he receives them, his form may set the parameters in this BGT. His performance as an opener is incredible ", He stated.

Rohit was looking for a long-term companion on Day 2. As Australian spinner Tod Murphy ran wild, players like R Ashwin, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav left the field without making any impact. Murphy had taken three wickets by the time Rohit completed his triple-digit mark on Day 2. Suryakumar Yadav was the lone wicket Nathan Lyon acquired.

India restricted the Aussies to a score of 177 in the first innings and didn't bat with the same assurance they had with the ball. But, except for Rohit, the hitters still need to recognize the pitch's characteristics fully.
