Roma lifts their first European Cup in 60 years!
Jose Mourinho and his romance with European finals continue!
Jose Mourinho – The Man, The Myth, and The Legend has once again conquered Europe. Yes, it is not a very high profile trophy that one normally associates with Jose but a European trophy nonetheless. Peter Durry said it a few years back but this might be the perfect time to acknowledge the fact that Roma has risen from their ruins. They were nowhere in the picture of European glory in the past few years but with the Portuguese in charge, Lupetti lifted the first ever European Conference Cup by beating Feyenoord 1-0 at Tirana.
Nicolo Zaniolo’s strike in the 32nd minute decided the fate of the match and helped Roma win their first major European title in 60 years. The Italian Club dominated most of the first half as Zanilola slotted his first goal in all competition. The young Italian also became the youngest to score in a major European final in the last 15 minutes. Feyenoord tried their best as a couple of shots hit the post as luck didn’t favour them.
“I’m going to turn down any proposal. I will stay at Roma even if there are rumours. We made history today”, said an elated Jose Mourinho after lifting his fifth European title. The manager added, “I have no doubts, I will continue as Roma manager”.
Roma Captain Lorenzo Pellegrini in the post match conference said, “We are a real team. Now we have to celebrate and start again, which is always very difficult after a great victory, but a real team wins, celebrates and starts again”.
