The 29-year-old Jitesh Sharma replaces the injured Sanju Samson for the Sri Lanka series

Team India suffered a major setback before the second match of the 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. Team India's star wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson has been injured due to a knee injury and ruled out for the remaining matches of the tour.

"Samson hurt his left knee while attempting to field a ball near the boundary ropes during the first T20I," an Indian Cricket Council release stated. "He was taken for scans and a specialist opinion this afternoon in Mumbai by the Indian cricket council Medical Team and has been advised rest and rehabilitation." The apex board has announced the replacement for Sanju Samson. Jitesh Sharma will replace him in the series.

The 29-year-old wicketkeeper batter Jitesh Sharma received his maiden call for team India. The Ranji Cup star is likely to debut for team India in tonight's fixture against Sri Lanka. According to the reports, the 28-year-old Samson injured his knee and has not reached Pune with the team. His knee appeared to have gotten stuck on the turf as Samson tried to put in a slide at deep third to stop a boundary. He immediately left the field. He scored 5 in 6 balls in the first T20I against Sri Lanka at Wankhede.

Team India also has Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad as alternative backups who can get the chance to play in tonight's match. Since Rahul Tripathi has lots of experience playing in the middle order, he is more likely to play at number four.

The responsibility of wicketkeeping will remain with Ishan Kishan. Kishan has been selected as the main wicket-keeper batter for this series. The left-handed destructive batter scored 37 runs in 29 balls in the first T20I.

Sanju Samson's injury is no less than a big blow for him too. In the absence of Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson had an important chance to prove himself in this series to book his slot for the long run if he had performed well in this series but unfortunately he has been ruled out due to injury. The Hosts lead the three-match series 1-0.
