Sarfaraz Ahmed reaches the 6000 international run mark

On Wednesday, January 4, Sarfaraz Ahmed became only the second Pakistani wicket keeper to score 6000 international runs. The former skipper accomplished the incredible feat on Day 3 of the ongoing Test match against New Zealand at the National Stadium in Karachi. 

Sarfaraz has scored 6007 runs in 229 matches at an average of 34.55 with five hundreds and 35 half centuries to his name. Kamran Akmal is the top run getter amongst Pakistani wicket keepers in international cricket

Akmal, who last represented Pakistan as a designated keeper way back in 2014, has compiled 6692 runs from 260 matches at an average of 26.87 with 11 tons and 27 half centuries. 

The 35 year old Sarfaraz on Wednesday brought up his 35th half century before he was controversially adjourned out following a stumping. He was dismissed right at the stroke of tea on the third day of the second test match against the Kiwis. He also shared a 150 run fifth wicket stand along with Saud Shakeel, who recorded his maiden Test hundred. 

Sarfaraz recently made a comeback in red ball cricket following  a gap of almost four years. He replaced Mohammad Rizwan, who had a terrible time in the series against the ‘Three Lions’ that the hosts lost 0-3.

Sarfaraz also played well for Sindh in the previous edition of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. He is the leading run scorer by a Pakistani wicketkeeper, having managed to score 2874 runs in 51 matches.
