Ramos returns to Sevilla 18 years after he left the club

The 37-year-old Sergio Ramos has finally officially returned to his first club, Sevilla. The La Liga club announced this certainty on Monday (4/9/2023).

Former Los Blancos skipper Ramos has been without a club or free transfer since July 1, 2023. His contract with PSG expired and was not renewed. Instead of accepting tempting offers from several clubs such as Al Nassr, Inter Miami, and Galatasaray, Ramos decided to return to Sevilla. Sevilla is also proud to introduce Ramos as their recruit. There, he received a year-long contract and the number 4 jersey. “Sevilla FC have reached an agreement for the signing of Sergio Ramos. "This academy graduate returned to the club 18 years after he signed a contract with Real Madrid in 2005, at the age of 19," wrote Sevilla on their official website.

Interestingly, Ramos 'only' receives a salary of 2 million for the next year. This means that his salary is up to 90% lower than what he would get if he went to Saudi Arabia. Ramos also admitted that he was very enthusiastic about this return. Ramos is also confident that he can bring Sevilla to achieve success in the 2023/2024 season. "Today is one of the very special days for me. It's very emotional. I'm finally back home (of the Seville club) and I'm optimistic looking forward to every moment when I wear the Seville club crest on my chest again," the Spaniard added.

Not to forget, Ramos also admitted that he felt he had a debt to return to strengthen Los Rojiblancos to the fans, his grandfather, his father, and his former teammate who had passed away, Antonio Puerta. Sergio is a genuine product of the Seville Academy. He joined at the age of 7 and finally made his debut in the reserve team at the age of 16, to be precise in the 2002/2003 season.

The following season, Sergio Ramos made his first team debut on 1 February 2004, when he replaced Paco Gallardo in a 0–1 away defeat against Deportivo La Coruna. He made seven appearances that season and quickly became a mainstay in the starting XI. In the 2004/2005 season, Sergio became a starter, making 31 appearances in the league and scoring two goals. He also appeared in four Copa del Rey and six in the UEFA Cup.
