The Hosts New Zealand is all set to take on Sri Lanka in the second ODI of this 3-match ODI series. The second ODI of the 3-match ODI series will be played at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on Tuesday, 28th March at 06:30 AM IST.

Lankan Lions are all set to face Black Caps in the 2nd ODI as they look to make a comeback and stay alive in the series. After a 2-0 whitewash in the Tests, SL's form slipped even further as they were bundled up for just 76 runs in the 1st ODI against New Zealand.

Black Caps' key bowlers in the side were impressive in their respective spells to restrict the hosts to a par total. A 275-run target which they set against New Zealand isn’t much in Auckland where teams have managed to chase down even bigger totals.

The left-handed batter skipper of the side in the absence of Williamson, Tom Latham who is leading the hosts in the ODI series scored a brilliant hundred the last time he played in Christchurch. Holding 3rd place in the ODI ranking NZ has quite a few newcomers on their side.

Of those, 26-year-old fast bowler Henry Shipley made his mark with a fifer in the 4th ODI of his career by scalping 5/31 in just 7 overs, helping the hosts to win the match by huge 198 runs. Both the veteran and experienced bowlers of the side Boult and Southee aren’t part of this NZ squad. Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka will be furious with the result of the 1st ODI in Auckland, a venue that is known to be favourable for chasing. The skipper himself was out for a golden duck as the team bundled up for just 76 runs in just 19.5 overs. It was the second consecutive ODI SL were bowled out for under 80. 

In terms of batting, Angelo Mathews was the top scorer for the side with 18 off 25 followed by Karunaratne's 11 off 24 balls. The bowlers did a good job by ceasing NZ's innings under the 280 mark, courtesy of Karunaratne's 4/43, Rajitha's 2/38 & Kumara's 2/46. Rajitha also managed to pick up a couple of wickets at an economy of just above 5.

And it will start with right-handed batter Nissanka at the top followed by Kusal Mendis at number 3. These two batters are key to a comeback and Mendis, in particular, needs to play a big knock to take the Visitors to a competitive total. But the entire side lost the wickets in clusters and NZ did not give even a single chance to make a comeback in the match.

Both sides have faced each other in 100 matches in ODI. Out of these games, NZ has won 50 whereas SL have come out victorious on 41 occasions and 8 matches ended without a result.

The 3rd place in the ODI World rankings NZ has been on top of its game at home. NZ has not lost an ODI match in the last 4 years and has won 14 ODIs since then. Though the Black Caps will be without the key players, they have enough firepower to keep their unbeaten streak of 6 ODIs against SL to keep alive. They just slaughtered SL in all-three departments in the first ODI by beating them with 198 runs. 

On the other hand, the Visitors have everything to die for the results. SL's WC qualification depends on the outcome. But Lankan Lions' haven’t been good in this format. Sri Lanka has lost 5 of the last 6 games which they played recently. We anticipate New Zealand to dominate SL once again in this match to go 2-0 up in the series.
