Preview

Dindigul Dragons will cross swords with Salem Spartans in the 26th match of the ongoing Tamil Nadu T20 League. The game is scheduled for the 3rd of July at the Indian Cement Company Stadium in Tirunelveli. 

The Dragons have won five of their six matches so far and are placed in the second spot on the points table. On the other side, the Spartans have only managed to win only two matches and are ranked in the seventh position in the points table. 

DD played their last match against NRK where they registered a seven-wicket win. The Dragons’ winning the toss chose to field first. The Royal Kings' batters started off decently with most of their batters getting good starts but failed to convert those to big scores. DD needed to chase 160 runs to win the match and they did it quite comfortably with their opening batters contributing 117 runs. Although they got a slow start but later managed to topple the opponents with ease.

SS fought against Idream Tiruppur Tamizhans in their previous encounter where the latter won the toss and chose to field first.  The Spartans were not in a good position right from the beginning as they lost two wickets while scoring only one run. Only Sunny Sandhu smashed 61 runs off 44 balls to lead his team to a respectable total of 155 runs. While chasing, the Tamizhans started off well but lost wickets at regular intervals, ending their innings nine runs shorter than the total.

Pitch Report

The pitch at the Indian Cement Company Ground will assist the spinners. They are going to come in handy in the middle overs with lots of turns available on the surface. The captain winning the toss will look to chase the target, with 160 runs being a respectable total at the ground.

In recent games, the pitch has slowed down a bit, allowing bowlers to have more of an impact on the outcome. The new ball should do nothing early on,  and allow batters to get their gaze in and try out their favourite shots to accumulate good runs in the powerplay overs.

Match Prediction

Salem Spartans have a formidable bowling attack and they showed their dominance in the last game. However, DD has its batting side in sublime touch and can be believed on. Their bowlers have also shown some signs of development and Baba Aparajith would like to keep on their winning momentum. Considering the current form of both sides, it is quite understandable that DD has the upper hand and will start as the favourites to win this match.
