Defending champions Trent Rockets (TR) will take the field against Birmingham Phoenix (BP) in the seventh match of ‘The Hundred’ 2023 at Edgbaston on Sunday. Rockets started their campaign with a thrilling 6 run win over Southern Brave. Birmingham’s previous encounter on the other hand was washed out. Despite earning a point, BP were substandard on the day. 

BP can consider themselves lucky that the rain gods were kind in the midst of their opening tie as they were in a disastrous position having been asked to bat first by Northern Superchargers (NOS). They lost half their side inside 62 balls and were only able to muster 84 runs. However, alleviating circumstances are that the Birmingham based franchise were without a number of their key players such as skipper Moeen Ali and batting all rounder Liam Livingstone. The top order looks potent with the inclusion of these two and new signing Ben Duckett. 

TR for the most parts looked jaded in their opening fixture against Southern Brave (SOB). If it wasn’t for the dramatic recovery of the bowlers, Rockets would have lost the tie. Defending 133, the Rockets bundled out SOB for 127, taking three wickets in the final three balls of the match. Daniel Sams capped off things skillfully for the hosts, whilst skipper Lewis Gregory led from the front, picking up three wickets of his own.
