Matthew Wade set to miss Gujarat's season opener

Australian wicket keeper batter Matthew Wade will miss Gujarat’s inaugural game of the Ind T20 League 2024 as he is slated to play the Sheffield Shield final. Tasmania are in pole position to organise the final between March 21-25 this year while Gujarat will play their opening game of the season on March 24 against Mumbai.

In the event of Shield Final happening on the final day, Wade might not even be available for the second match which is scheduled for March 26 against reigning champions Chennai.

“He's spoken with his Ind T20 League franchise and they're happy to allow him to stay here, which probably equates to him potentially missing their first game," Tasmania head coach Jeff Vaughan confirmed. "We feel very fortunate to have someone of Matt's ilk coming back into our group, and his experience and his performances at the back end of our season."

Wade has been an integral part of the Gujarat setup since their inception in 2022. He was part of the playing XI that clinched the title in their debut season even though he wasn’t their gloveman. Wade was not featured in the following season finale where they finished as runners up.
