A plunge into Kohli's woeful run

If someone in 2016 had told us that Virat Kohli in near future will struggle for runs, we wouldn’t have believed them a bit but after seeing the stalwart’s dismissals in the ongoing edition of the Ind T20 League it is safe to say that Kohli is indeed having a rough patch. The former skipper who once was regarded for his assertiveness and watertight technique is now showing signs of nervousness and falling to poor shot selection. What has been more surprising is how Kohli approaches the game nowadays. Known for his ability to read match situations, the 33 year old is even having a hard time in assessing the game. 

In Bangalore’s recent fixture against Rajasthan, Virat came to open the batting alongside Faf Du Plessis. Chasing a par total of 145 runs, Bangalore weren’t really facing any asking rate pressure. Virat had a great opportunity to take his time, settle in and win the game for his side but the adrenaline rush got the better of him. NZ quickie Trent Boult bowled the very first over of the Bangalore inning. Virat defended the first two balls with authority. Off the third ball of the over, Kohli pushed to within an inch or two of a catch. Something has gone wrong when a player of his talent almost falls for a plan that couldn't have been clearer than crystal. 

It is not just T20 cricket but the champion batsman’s slump of form is apparent in the One dayers and Test Cricket. With the World T20 series fast approaching, Kohli soon needs to find a way to get back to his very best. He is a valuable asset to the Indian Cricket team and possibly their best chance to lift the prestigious cup. 

Our theory of Kohli’s downfall is the excruciatingly hectic schedule. He has been playing non stop cricket for quite some time now. We believe he needs to take some time off, get back to the drawing board, try to keep things simple and back himself. One hopes that Kohli regains touch for himself and for his fans.
