5 Biggest Buys in the Ind-T20 League 2021

The likes of Glenn Maxwell, Kyle Jamieson and Chris Morris were among the coveted international stars up for grabs in the 2021 auctions of the Indian T20 league.  Only 57 were picked from a pool of 292 players which included a few uncapped sensations. With the conclusion of the highly anticipated auction, all eight teams are set to enter the upcoming edition of Indian T20 league with their new squad. Let’s have a look at the top 5 biggest purchases made in the 2021 Ind-T20 league auction:

1. Chris Morris:  The SA all-rounder broke all records to become the most expensive signing in the history of Ind-T20 league. He was bought by Rajasthan for a walloping Rs 16.25 crores, surpassing the previous record of Rs 16 crores. With 551 runs and 80 wickets under his name, Morris would be keen to live up to his price tag and do well for his new franchise.
2. Kyle Jamieson: One of the highlights of this season’s auction was the signing of NZ all-rounder Kyle Jamieson. He was purchased for a smashing 15 crores by Bangalore, becoming the second highest paid cricketer in this auction. He played his first T20 game for NZ against West Indies in November 2020, and ever since his addition to the side, the 6’8 has been in limelight. Jamieson’s raw pace and prowess to clear the fence at will makes him a good buy. 
3. Glenn Maxwell:  Glen Maxwell was another huge name that made a lot of buzz during the bidding war. Released earlier by Punjab after a dismal show in 2020, Maxwell was set up for sale at a base price of 2 crores.  Kolkata kicked off the bid, followed by Rajasthan, Bangalore, and Chennai.  He was eventually bought by Bangalore for almost 7 times his base price. It wo0uld be interesting to see how the franchise manages to fit him in their scheme of things.
4.  Jhye Richardson: Australian seamer Jhye Richardson was picked up for 14 crores by Punjab. The 24 year old had an outstanding Australian T20 for Perth. He was their leading wicket taker with 29 scalps at an impressive economy rate of 7.69.  Punjab would be delighted if Richardson could carry his form in the Indian T20 league. 
5.  Krishnappa Gowtham: This buy came as a huge surprise for many. The 32 year old was rewarded with an IPL contract for Rs 9.28 crore by Chennai, making him the highest paid uncapped player. Gowtham played only two games for Punjab last season and picked up just a wicket.  This gamble could go either ways. Either he could do exceedingly well or he could prove to be a game changer for the men in yellow.  

English all rounder Moeen Ali was another star attraction in the auctions. He was bought by CSK for Rs 7 crores. Uncapped sensations Mohammed Azharuddeen and Shahrukh Khan were among other popular buys in the event. 35 Indian players and 22 foreign players were sold during the mini auction.
