Liverpool paired with Atalanta, Leverkusen set to face West Ham

Liverpool will face Atalanta in the Europa League quarter finals as the English side continue their pursuit to complete the quadruple in Jurgen Klopp’s final season in charge.

Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen, who made an emphatic turnaround to edge past Qarabag in the round of 16 with two injury-time goals, are paired with West Ham.

The semi final draw implies that Leverkusen and Liverpool, the two strongest title contenders, cannot meet until the final, scheduled for May 22 at the Dublin Arena in Ireland.

If the two sides advance through the next two rounds, it would be one of Klopp’s final fixtures at the helm after more than eight years in charge and would set him against Alonso who has been heavily linked with taking over the soon to be vacant position at Anfield.

The quarter finals will also feature an all Italian clash between  AC Milan and AS Roma, who defeated Slavia Prague and Brighton respectively.

The draw ended with Benfica getting Marseille.

For the penultimate round, the winner of Liverpool vs Atalanta will come up against either Benfica or Marseille, and Milan or Roma will face the winner of Leverkusen vs West Ham.

The quarter finals will be played on April 11 and 18 for the first and second legs respectively, with the semifinals slated for May 2 and 9.
