Hanuma Vihari ventures wrist rupture to bat left-handed for Andhra Pradesh

Hanuma Vihari shocked the fans and the officials on Wednesday when he went on with the bat despite a vicious wrist fracture in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal against Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday. 

Andhra Pradesh skipper Hanuma Vihari portrayed an example of extreme grit and determination towards his team. Vihari was hit by pacer Avesh Khan during the 1st day of the match and the scans later disclosed that the batsman sustained a wrist fracture.

Nevertheless, the injury didn’t hinder Vihari’s dedication towards the team as he stepped out of the pavilion to bat after the loss of the 9th wicket in the form of Prithvi Raj Yarra. The 29-year-old right-handed batsman, changed his style to left-hander to ensure his broken wrist remains protected. 

Vihari had been a crucial part of the Indian squad till the previous year but failed to regain his place after the inclusion of Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel. The Indian batter will remain absent from the Indian squad for their upcoming tour against Australia.

Previously, Madhya Pradesh skipper Aditya Srivastava won the toss and choose to bowl in Indore for the quarter-final battle against Andhra Pradesh. The visiting team had an outstanding outing on the first day as they lost only two wickets for 262 runs. The Madhya Pradesh bowlers made a hostile attack on the morning session of Day 2. While Kumar Kartikeya and Gaurav Yadav took two wickets apiece, Anubhav Agarwal took a four-fer to bring his team to the game 

Ricky Bhui (149) and Kirdant Karan Shinde (110) smashed two fabulous hundreds. Their ninth wicket fell on 353 after which Hanuma Vihari took on the field with a wrist fracture to bat and score some runs for his team. 

To be more specific, Madhya Pradesh are the defending champion of the Ranji Trophy and will be looking to retain the prestigious silverware. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh are yet to lift the most demanding domestic trophy. 

The other matches include, Jharkhand versus Bengal in the first quarter-final, Saurashtra clashes with Punjab in the second and Karnataka hosts Uttarakhand at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru for the third quarter-final.
