Virat Kohli hits another record, overtakes Virender Sehwag

Indian cricketing legend Virat Kohli on Thursday, June 20, achieved yet another milestone. He surpassed veteran cricketer Virender Sehwag’s record to become the fifth Indian batter with the highest number of runs in Test Cricket. 

This milestone was completed during the first innings of the second test against West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. 

He required just 32 runs to overtake Sehwag’s total of 8586 runs, Kohli not only left him behind but also leapfrogged the former Australian legendary batter Matthew Hayden who had a record of 8625 runs in the longest format of the game.

At the end of the inaugural’s day’s play in Trinidad, Virat was on an unbeaten streak of 87 runs and stronghold his position as the fifth-highest run-getter for India in Test Cricket. The Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar tops the list. The batting maestro registered 15,921 runs in 200 matches at an average of 53.78 in Test Cricket. 

He is followed by the present Indian head coach, Rahul Dravid who has secured 13288 runs in 164 Tests. The third position belongs to the ‘Little Master’, Sunil Gavaskar who is the first player to reach 10,000 runs in Test Cricket and has 10122 runs in 125 matches. VVS Laxman is the next batter and has 8781 runs to his name in 134 matches.
