WI tour of SA, 2023

SA vs WI, 2nd ODI

Preview

The first match of the three-match ODI series was abandoned due to rain, South Africa and West Indies will lock horns in the second ODI which will be held on Saturday, March 18 at Buffalo Park in East London. South Africa will be high on confidence entering into this series whitewashing the Caribbean side in Tests 2-0. The Proteas previously played an ODI series against England in January-February 2023, winning by a margin of 2-1.

On the other side, West Indies also haven’t played a One Day International for a long time. They last played against the Kiwis at home in August 2022 in which they were defeated by 1-2. Also, they don’t have a seemingly good record against South Africa at their home, having won only one bilateral series against the Rainbow nation in the 32-year-long ODI history between the sides.

Also, the West Indies went victorious against South Africa in a tri-series in 1993, which also had Pakistan as a participant. The Shai Hope-led Caribbean side will be keen to win this time and end their series win drought during this clash.

Pitch and Weather Report

The pitch at Buffalo Park in East London assists batsmen to try out their shots without fear because of the short boundaries. The surface has good bounce and pace, hence is favourable for the fast bowlers. The spinners will not have a good day bowling at this pitch as the ball doesn't grip the surface.

The weather in east London indicates clouds all over the area with chances of rain during the match time. The highest and lowest temperatures will be 26 and 19 degrees celsius with a humidity of 76%. There are slight chances of the match getting affected due to rainfall.

Match Prediction

West Indies come into this competition with a poor form. Their batsman doesn’t have many good records on South African soil. The pitch will test their batters who will have to face the fierce pace attack of the home side. Also, South Africa hasn’t lost a match on this pitch in more than two decades and hence they are clearly the favourites to win this match.
