Women's World T20 Cup

2nd Match: WI-W vs ENG-W

Preview

The second match of the Women's T20 WC 2023 will take place between WI-W and ENG-W on Saturday, 11th February at 06:30 PM IST. This match is scheduled to take place at Boland Park, Paarl. Windies Women have had a very disappointing set of matches leading up to the world cup. They lost all the matches in the tri-series against IND-W and SA-W. WI-W was defeated by a huge margin in their previous match against India Women by 8 wickets. They will look to put all this behind them when they play ENG-W in their first match of the T20 WC fixture.

England women on the other hand are in excellent form leading up to the WC. English women defeated the West Indies women, 5-0 in a 5-match T20 series. They won their previous match by 8 wickets after bowling out the Windies for 43 runs only. This series win will be a major boost for Heather Knight's side ahead of the women’s T20 WC coming up in a few days.

Windies will look for a fresh start in the upcoming T20 WC after a poor run of games before it. They have failed to win a single match in their last 8 matches. They did not win even one match in the Women's T20 tri-series held in the Proteas land.

WI-W also lost the last T20 match they played against India by 8 wickets about a month back. The side even failed to cross the hundred-run mark and bowled out on 94 runs. The skipper of the side Hayley Matthews was the top scorer with 34 runs up the order. Matthews did not get any support from any other batter as they were toppled for 94 runs. Windies bowlers could not do much as their total was chased down quite easily by 8 wickets. The Caribbean will have to come up with solutions as soon as possible to have a successful World Cup 2023.

The ENG-W team have been in very good form leading up to the WC 2023. They thrashed West Indies by five games to nil about a month or two back. In their last match, they got the WI-W all out for a meagre 43 runs. They chased down the total within 6 overs and 8 wickets to spare. This was a huge statement made by the English women ahead of the T20 world cup.

The 28-year-old English bowler Alice Davidson-Richards and 27-year-old right-arm medium-pace bowler Freya Davies claimed 3 wickets each as the WI-W was bowled out for 43 runs. As far as their batting order is concerned, it was nothing but a cakewalk as they chased down the target with 8 wickets to spare. ENG-W face a familiar opponent in the WI-W in their first match as they kickstart their T20 WC on Saturday.

Pitch & Weather Report

As mentioned earlier, Boland Park is a competitive track and offers something to the bowlers and the batters. Nothing is surprising in this pitch and will help both sides equally.

It will be amazing to watch a match being played at this venue, one of the most beautiful grounds in the world. There is support for both batters and bowlers on this competitive track, as seen by the average first innings score of 170 runs in T20 games played on this track. The team winning the toss should choose to bowl first and look to chase a total.

The maximum temperature will remain at 38°C, with a low of 18°C with 28% humidity, and a cool wind speed of 21 Km/hr for the second 2nd Match, the Women's World T20 Cup on Feb 10 b/w WI-W vs ENG-W. The weather in Boland Park, Paarl during the game will be warm but pleasant on this match day.

Match Prediction

The 2nd placed Women's T20I team in the world ENG-W team has not lost a single match against the 6th placed Windies side in recent times and their 5-0 victory over them will be a major morale boost as they face them again in the WC match on Saturday. Windies on the other hand has not won a single match in their last 5 which will be something to worry about for them as they go into the T20 WC. We say England to win this match with a big margin against the unsettled Windies side on Feb 10.
